Lions to unveil new logo next Monday

Lions president Tom Lewand indicated today that the Lions will unveil their new logo and uniform in a press conference next Monday.

"I'm not going to get into specifics of what we're going to talk about a week from today, but it'll be a pretty comprehensive announcement about the look of the the revamped franchise," he said after a press conference to trumpet next year's Frozen Four at Ford Field.

Lewand first mentioned the possibility of a revamped look when the Lions hosted two town hall-style meetings in January. The new logo leaked out on NFL.com last month when a toy truck appeared for sale with a meaner, more defined "Bubbles." Changes to Ford Field and team headquarters will be "done in a rolling fashion," Lewand said.

"The interest in everything is heartening because the interest level that people have ever since we teased the possibility that this maybe coming is I think very indicative of the interest level that our fans have in the real product, which is what's out there on Sunday afternoons," he said. "That gives us great confidence, although the recognition of great responsibility that we have to get that product right first no matter what the package looks like."

When I first heard they were going to change the uniforms and logo, I was really worried, because the Lions have THE BEST colors & logo in the NFL, Period, bar none, end of story.

I was afraid they were going to go with the horrific "dark color" trend which has been ruining uniforms in the NFL for the past decade or so.

I was relieved when I saw the new logo. It's just a slightly revised leaping Lion.

And they've stayed true to the Honolulu blue!

As someone who loves the Lions uniforms, I am fine with the changes.

I'm not sure "meaner" is the appropriate adjective to use for the pic that leaked. It really looked a little more "flowery"...not exactly a roaring king of the beasts upgrade to Bubbles the kitty..

I always find it amusing how some people associate a Leaping Lion, which is frozen in the midst of an attack that will likely be the death of whatever it's attacking, as NOT mean! Or as a Kitty. Or something stupid like that. He's leaping in full attack mode! How the hell is that a kitty or bubbly? That's as mean as it gets folks. There's nothing "nice" about that picture. It's mean!

That "kitty" stuff is absurd. Absolutely absurd.

The name is NOT "Bubbles". That was a name some writer gave them and a lot of so called "fans" decided to follow his lead.

The actual name of the logo is simply "The Leaping Lion".
