It’s no surprise that the Lions tendered a second-round restricted free agent offer to defensive end Willie Young on Tuesday.
General manager Martin Mayhew had previously said they wanted Young, a seventh-round draft pick, to return.
Young was tendered a second-round RFA offer of $2.03 million for 2013.
At this point the Lions have one defensive end signed and that’s Ronnell Lewis who is definitely not ready to start.
Cliff Avril and Lawrence Jackson will be unrestricted free agents as of 4 p.m. Tuesday and Kyle Vanden Bosch was released.
More was probably expected of Young last season when he played in 16 games with zero sacks. He had three sacks in 14 games in 2011.
