The Lions are one of four teams in the running to sign free agent safety Dashon Goldson according to reports from ESPN.
Certainly Detroit needs upgrade at safety after battling through injuries to Louis Delmas and Amari Spievey the last two seasons.
The 28-year-old Dashon has missed just two games in the last four seasons with the 49ers. He’s had nine interceptions in the last two seasons.
He could demand about $8 million a season.
The other three teams are the 49ers, Eagles and Buccaneers.
There are also reports late Monday night that the Lions could be interested in safety Glover Quin, 27, who has started every game for the Houston Texans in the last three seasons. He has five interceptions in his four years with Houston.
He could come a little cheaper than Goldson.
The Lions are also in the chase for running back Reggie Bush along with the Arizona Cardinals.
Detroit is short on cap space with about $5 million of breathing room. They’ve been working on an extension for Matthew Stafford which would open up significant salary cap space.
Free agency opens at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
