Detroit Lions and NFL free agency: Ready, set, not so fast

What to expect when you’re expecting, NFL free agency version:

 1. At midnight (10 hours ago) teams could start talking to agents of free agents, but not the players themselves. Late Friday teams received a memo from league detailing what they could and couldn’t do in this three-day window before free agency starts at 4 p.m. on Tuesday. Don’t expect to hear terms of any contract before that period.

2. The Lions can still work this weekend on signing their own guys who are pending free agents. That is the news that we could get this weekend although some of those guys (Cliff Avril, Louis Delmas) are expected to hit the open market and test the waters.

3. The Lions continue to work on extending contract of Matthew Stafford whose salary counts $19.3 million against the cap as it stands now. They need that salary cap space to sign free agents.

4. Might also get some news on the playing status of Jason Hanson. The veteran kicker said three weeks ago he would make his decision in “weeks.” Once he decides signing him to new deal should not be a huge issue.
