Detroit Lions: Free agency approaches, not much action

So.

Thought there might be some Detroit Lions news regarding their own free agents this weekend

So far, nothing really.

Chris Houston has a new agent, but not sure what that means. Schwartz & Feinsod welcomed Houston via Twitter on Sunday morning.

Maybe Houston was unhappy with his last representation. Doe this new agency mean the Lions and Houston start over or does it mean there was nothing going on?

Houston hits free agency at 4 p.m. on Tuesday along with Cliff Avril, Louis Delmas, Lawrence Jackson and others unless deals get done.

It’s not like all the other NFL teams are making news and the Lions are quiet.

While teams could start talking to player agents on Saturday, they were reminded in a memo on Friday that they couldn’t make deals before 4 p.m. on Tuesday.

Also, ProFootballTalk.com speculated on Sunday — and I agree — that they big money isn’t there so there’s not much action. Many teams, including the Lions, don’t have much room under the salary cap.

No breaking news on an extension for Matthew Stafford to open up some salary cap space.
