Free agent defensive end Willie Young has signed with the Chicago Bears, according to USA Today’s Tom Pelissero.
Young, a seventh-round draft pick by the Lions in 2010, started 15 games in 2013 for Detroit with 47 tackles, three sacks and five pass defenses. It was a breakout year for Young who had played 16 games in 2012 with no starts.
Young started on the right side which was then taken over by rookie Ezekiel Ansah.
When Jason Jones was injured in the third game, Young took over the left defensive end role.
Jones is expected to be back healthy this season to start. Ansah underwent shoulder surgery about a month ago, but should be ready to start the season.
Devin Taylor, a rookie in 2013, developed into a solid end as the season wore on and he got more playing time. He finished with 2.5 sacks.
The Lions are hosting linebacker Darryl Tapp today. Tapp played in 11 games for the Redskins last season and was with the Eagles the previous three seasons. He was a second-round pick in 2006 by the Seahawks.
