Calvin Johnson, Best practice; still no go for Stafford

ALLEN PARK -- Calvin Johnson caught a few balls at practice today (Thursday) which was a bit of an improvement over Wednesday when he just ran routes. The Lions wide receiver still looked like he was treating his right shoulder gingerly.

He fell awkwardly on the shoulder early in Sunday’s win over the Rams.

Matthew Stafford did not throw at practice which pretty much rules him out for Sunday although Jim Schwartz has not made it official.

Linebacker DeAndre Levy, who said on Wednesday that his ankle is much better, hoped to practice today but did not.

RB Jahvid Best (toe) did not practice on Wednesday but was back today.

Others out were LB Landon Johnson (concussion), CB Nathan Vasher (nose, biceps) and DE Turk McBride (ankle).

Also Lions brought back LB Vinny Ciurciu and waived/injured LB Spencer Havner.

The Lions have done quite well on offense without Stafford, but Calvin Johnson is clearly the key to their success. If Calvin is less than 100% the Lions are going to struggle to move the ball.
