Sunday was military appreciation day across the NFL, designated as “Salute to Service.” The Lions had many special moments during the game thanking men and women from our armed services.
Perhaps the best moment came after the 20-16 win over Miami when coach Jim Caldwell presented the game ball to U.S. Army specialist Andrew Martin from Shelby Township in honor of all the men and women currently serving and who have served in the military.
Martin was a special guest during the game’s coin toss and was presented a special Salute to Service Calvin Johnson jersey.
“We certainly wanted to give him something to remember in regard to this particular game,’’ Caldwell said.
Following his stint home, Martin will be redeployed to South Korea in the next few months.
