Detroit draft wide receiver TJ Jones in sixth round

ALLEN PARK — It took a while, but the Detroit Lions drafted a wide receiver. TJ Jones (Notre Dame) was selected in the sixth round (189th overall).

Jones, who as born in Winnipeg, was the Irish’s leading receiver in 2013 as a team captain. He also returned punts. He was originally projected as a fourth- or fifth-round pick.

Jones, who is 6-foot and 188 pounds, has football bloodlines. His uncle Philip Daniels was a 14-year NFL defensive end and now works as director of player development for the Redskins. His godfather is Raghib “Rocket” Ismail who was a receiver and return man for the Irish.
