NFL owners vote on 3 changes, including JIm Schwartz rule

The NFL owners passed or altered three rules today including the Jim Schwartz rule, per ProFootballTalk.com. The owners are meeting this week in Phoenix.

Now if a coach throws a penalty flag on a reviewable play, the play will still be reviewed although there will be a penalty. This possibly cost the Lions a win on Thanksgiving when Schwartz threw the flag on a touchdown that would haven been over-turned.

Also the owners passed a controversial helmet rule. Now offensive or defensive players will not be able to use the crown of their helmets in a play in the open field. Several former players, including Eric Dickerson have spoken out against this rule. It’s sissifying an inherently violent game which, in turn, makes it safer for players.

Also the tuck rule no longer exists. If a quarterback pump fakes and loses the ball when trying to bring it back into their body it will be ruled a fumble. Previously it was an interception. This could be called the Tom Brady rule.

 So what do you think?

Let me know. We can also talk about this during a live chat at 3 p.m. on Thursday.
