Detroit Lions still in talks with Louis Delmas

Safety Louis Delmas could still return to the Detroit Lions.

Delmas, an unrestricted free agent, visited the St. Louis Rams on Wednesday and the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday.

An erroneous Twitter report around 4 p.m. on Thursday had him signing with the 49ers. That was false. He is still available.

Shortly after that Lions president Tom Lewand announced Jeff Backus’ retirement and then was asked if the Lions are still talking to Delmas. He replied in general terms.

“We’ll maintain communication with a lot of free agents. As I said, free agency is not over,’’ Lewand said. “We’ve maintained contact with our own guys as well as some of the other free agents out there and we’ll see where things take us.”

About two hours later during a radio interview on WJR, Lewand was asked about Delmas and said they are still in discussions with him.

The Lions signed safety Glover Quin on Wednesday, but that doesn’t mean they have given up on signing Delmas.

Get him back at the a decent price and have injury stipulations to cover the teams arse if he keeps getting hurt. We COULD have a solid DEF. backfield if we get Milliner in 1st round or hopefully they get Amerson in 2nd round. So it would be Houston,Delmas,Quin, and a 1-big time rookie prospect. I could live with that.
