Detroit Lions re-sign long snapper Don Muhlbach
Muhlbach, who went to the Pro Bowl in January, agreed to a one-year deal today (Thursday). This will be his 10th season in Detroit and therefore his 10th season snapping to Jason Hanson.
Thanks to the Tim Twentyman of DetroitLions.com, here are the statistics that matter. With Muhlbach snapping, Hanson is 59-of-73 (80.8 pct) on field goals of 40-49 yards, 81-of-107 (75.7 pct) from 40-plus and 25-of-37 (67.6 pct) on 50-plus.
Certainly Hanson is a big part of that, but consistency with the long snapper is a bonus. He will have to adjust to a new holder this season.
Hanson has told the Lions he wants to return for his 22nd season, but no agreement has been reached. That should not be an issue.
