Easy to pick three stars after Lions win over Redskins
DETROIT -- After the Lions’ 37-25 win over the Washington Redskins on Sunday, it’s pretty easy to pick out the three stars of the game. (I realize it’s not hockey, lighten up.)
1. QB Matthew Stafford. He looked a bit rusty early, but was his cool, calm self. At half-time he regrouped, figured out how to attack and then went out and did it.
2. DT Ndamukong Suh. At half-time, Suh had played in exactly 6.5 NFL games and he had exactly 6.5 sacks, picking up two in the first half. Love that stat. Then to top it off, he picked up a fumble recovery and returned it for a touchdown. All in a day’s work for the rookie.
3. WR Calvin Johnson. In his fourth season on the team, perhaps the Lions are figuring out how to get him the ball. It’s about time. He had three touchdown receptions (nine catches, 101 yards) in the big win. He and Stafford were totally in sync. As Stafford said, “It was fun.”
