Detroit Lions — Three reasons Travis Swanson likely to start at center

It’s not a complete certainty that Travis Swanson will start at center for the Detroit Lions, but from all appearances he will replace Dominic Raiola who started there for the last 14 seasons.

Here are three reasons Swanson is likely to be the man in the middle:

  1. Even though he’s a second-year guy he has experience on the line. Because of injuries, Swanson started five games last season. Four of them were at right guard and one at center when Raiola was suspended. Game experience is huge and the third-round draft pick has it.

  2. He was the starting center at Arkansas for three seasons. It appears he was drafted to eventually fill Raiola’s shoes.

  3. During mandatory minicamp in mid-June Swanson was in at center along with the starting group. Early in organized team activities Manny Ramirez took some snaps at center with the starters. But it looks like Ramirez will line up at left guard.

Three reasons? Let's not get overly dramatic Paula. There's really only one. Save Riley Reiff at left tackle, the entire O-line is in flux and Swanson is the only semi-reliable commodity the Lions have to play center.

Yet another article predicting Swanson as the starter but never mentioning his strengths or weaknesses. It seems to me the only thing he has going for him was that he was drafted. Obviously that's not true, but to all of the Sports writers it certainly seems to be the case.

Hey Hey Paula... I'm an avid/daily reader of the DET/Lions circuit. You stand apart from the guys (Birkett, Rogers, Carlos, Kyle, J-boy [lol], etc). Just wanted to let you know it's good to have a womans take on things... You're a respected vet in this game, and we hope ya know just how much you're appreciated.

Many blessings to you and yours lady...
