Detroit Lions — Scott Mitchell tries to be 'Biggest Loser'

ALLEN PARK — Scott Mitchell at 366 pounds? Unbelievable.

The 6-foot-6 Mitchell, the Lions quarterback from 1994 to 1998, had a playing weight of around 240 pounds.

That makes the 366 even more unbelievable - until you see the mug shot promoting his appearance on “Biggest Loser: The Glory Days.”

Yikes.

Good for Mitchell to go public with his obesity issues. According to his “Biggest Loser” biography his dad died earlier this year from obesity related issues. Also Mitchell has sleep apnea and high blood pressure.

I’m not going to make any “Biggest Loser” jokes here. You’ve heard them all. Mitchell had one great year (1995) with the Lions when they had the NFL’s top-ranked offense. Fans mostly remember the bad seasons which is fair.

He’ll be joined on the show, which debuts on Sept. 11, by another former Lion, Damien Woody.

Mitchell is 46 now. He was always an affable guy with a wicked sense of humor. He should be a good contestant, we’ll see.
