Detroit Lions: Over-reaction to Bill Ford Jr.'s 'bunch of thugs' remark

ALLEN PARK — Over-react much?

Detroit Lions vice chairman Bill Ford Jr., referred to the Chicago Bears as “a bunch of thugs” on Tuesday night during the annual Courage House dinner at Ford Field honoring Ed Block Courage award winner Nate Burleson.

Ford was being interviewed by Dan Miller, the team’s radio play-by-play person and local FOX TV sports anchor.

The mood was light during the interview talking about the atmosphere during Sunday’s win over the Chicago Bears at Ford Field.

“It was really alive, and it was alive when we played those same bunch of thugs on Monday Night,’’ Ford said. (I wasn’t at the event, but saw a clip on TV.)

At the Monday night game two years ago, the crowd was electric forcing the Bears into nine false starts.

It’s obvious Ford was trying to make a joke in front of hundreds of fans at the dinner. It wasn’t in the form of a prepared speech, it was during an interview.

This seems to be a big deal over not much.

Does anyone still have a sense of humor?
