Looker shows versatility

ALLEN PARK — Dane Looker, the Lions newest wide receiver, has never kicked a field goal in a game, but today he was four for four in the morning session of camp. That included a 43-yarder.

Looker got the chance because kicker Swayze Waters, who was signed following Jason Hanson’s minor knee surgery two weeks ago, woke up this morning with a stiff hamstring.

Coach Jim Schwartz said they could use Looker in a game to kick off and kick field goals if they have to.

“We’ll see how Swayze is, if he’s to the point he can’t play then maybe we’ll have to do something rosterwise,’’ Schwartz said.

Hanson is right on schedule following surgery, but is not able to kick yet. Looker, a veteran free agent, signed last week.
