Frazier to interview this weekend
The Denver Broncos will have first crack at landing Vikings defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier. Frazier, who oversaw the league's fifth-ranked defense, is expected to interview for Denver's head-coaching vacancy tomorrow. He'll travel to Detroit later this week, likely Friday or Saturday, to interview with the Lions.
Frazier, also a candidate in St. Louis, appears to be one of the most coveted assistants this winter after interviewing in Atlanta and Miami last year. Rams general manager Billy Devaney was part of the Falcons' search committee that eventually hired Coach of the Year Mike Smith. Frazier was reported to be runner-up for that job.
I wrote last week that Frazier was a name to keep an eye on. He's a soft-spoken but powerful presence in the locker room and someone with good coaching bloodlines (Tony Dungy, Jim Johnson; and he played for Buddy Ryan) and a track record of success.
"Great coach, great person," Vikings cornerback Antoine Winfield told the St. Paul Pioneer Press. "He has a great chance to get a job, and I wish him the best."
