Detroit Lions — Nevin Lawson out for season; veteran Danny Gorrer signed

As expected, rookie cornerback Nevin Lawson was placed on injured reserve on Tuesday ending his season. Lawson dislocated his toes in Sunday’s loss at Carolina and underwent immediate surgery.

To fill his roster spot the Lions signed 28-year-old cornerback Danny Gorrer (in photo).

Gorrer spent the last two seasons with the Tampa Bay Bucs where he played in 13 games and started one. Prior to that he was with the Seattle Seahawks (2012), the Baltimore Ravens (2011) and the St. Louis Rams (2009).

The Lions sent safety Nate Ness back to the practice squad on Monday creating another roster spot. They used that to sign linebacker Julian Stanford off the practice squad. It’s likely Stanford will fill in for Travis Lewis, who was injured on Sunday, on special teams.

The Lions also signed linebacker Jerrel Harris to the practice squad.
