T.J. Ward, considered the second-best free agent safety, has just followed Detroit Lions safety Glover Quin on Twitter.
A year ago Matthew Stafford followed free agent Reggie Bush on Twitter and — boom — Bush signed with the Lions.
According to Jason La Canfora of CBSSports.com, the Lions and Philadelphia Eagles have both shown an interest in Ward.
Ward, who has been with the Cleveland Browns for four seasons, could command about $7 million per season. That doesn’t mean he’ll get it.
Jairus Byrd, the top safety in free agency, is said to be asking for $9 million per year.
A year ago the Lions signed Quin at the start of free agency to a five-year $23.5 million deal.
Ward was a second-round draft pick by the Browns out of Oregon in 2010. He started all 16 games as a rookie.
The 27-year-old safety started all 16 games in 2013, finishing with 112 tackles, 1.5 sacks, a pair of interceptions and five pass defenses.
