On March 27, Amari Spievey had the dubious distinction of being the first of the Detroit Lions arrested in the off-season.
Spievey had a hearing in court in Middletown, Conn., Thursday and was given the chance to enter a family violence education program. If he completes it, the charges will be dropped when he returns to court on June 28, according to the Middletown Press.
The charges he faces are third-degree assault, risk of injury to a child and disorderly conduct for a domestic violence incident with his girlfriend who is the mother of their child.
The judge appeared to take into consideration that Spievey needs to be in Detroit — the offseason workouts start Monday. The offseason program will be complete prior to his June 28 court date.
He will be allowed to attend counseling in Michigan instead of the classes in Connecticut.
