Lions sign pair of veteran running backs
ALLEN PARK — With rookie Mikel Leshoure out for the season with a torn Achilles' the Lions have signed a pair of veteran running backs.
Jerome Harrison played last season for the Eagles and the four seasons prior to that for the Cleveland Browns. He had 330 rushing yards in 2010 for Eagles and Browns. He’s accumulated 1,516 rushing yards in five seasons. The Kalamazoo native played at Washington State and was drafted by the Browns in the fifth round in 2006.
Mike Bell, 28, played for Cleveland last year after he and Harrison were swapped between Eagles and Browns. In five games for the Eagles he had 28 rushing yards and in 11 for the Browns he had 71. He’s also played for the Broncos, Saints, Texans and Eagles.
To make room on the roster the Lions released FB Preston Dial. They waived injured CB Maurice Leggett.
No word on putting Leshoure on Injured Reserve yet.
