Foote a done deal
Foote, who turns 29 next month, should start at middle linebacker for his hometown team. He'll be flanked by Julian Peterson and Ernie Sims, with rookie third-round pick DeAndre Levy as the primary backup. That's a significant upgrade over a linebacking corps that included Paris Lenon and Ryan Nece a season ago.
Foote has started the last five seasons for Pittsburgh, winning two Super Bowl titles. He played at Michigan and Detroit Pershing, and is scheduled to take a physical today.
His agent, Ken Kremer, did not return e-mails or phone calls seeking comment.

Yes! Great scoop, Dave. This is outstanding news . . . this young defense needed a veteran presence in the middle.
Peace
Ty
Hot damn! And it will be a contract year for Foote, so he'll be that much more motivated to produce.
I still don't have much in the way of expectations for 2009, but even a cynic can recognize that despite an offense-led draft Mayhew has also managed to upgrade the defense during this offseason.
Also, receiver Keary Colbert, who finished last season with the Lions, is returning for a visit on Wednesday. The Lions are searching for a fifth receiver to go with the Johnsons, Ronald Curry and Derrick Williams.
So does that mean the Lions don't think Franklin, Boldin, or Standeford can be an adequate #5?
Or are they trying to create as much competition for the spot that they can?
Wow then Boldin, Franklin and Staneford must be stinking up the place.....Colbert used to be a solid #2 WR for Carolina then fell off the face of the planet, he would be a great #5 though....Bryant Johnson, Curry, Williams and Colbert is a huge upgrade over Mcdonald, Furrey, Staneford and what ever other practice scrubs were on the team last year
Dave any news on the Lions signing Mark Parson or Antone Smith after their tryouts over the weekend?
HELL YEAH
i knew they'd get him....even had a dream about it last night.
with Foote now in the books.. what are the lions next plans. Stand still? Wait until some more players get let go? Kevin Carter? What are some of there possible next targets?
schwartz's interview from this morning is up on wrif.com right now.
do yourself a favor and go take a listen.
