Dockery in town, too

Free-agent guard Derrick Dockery, released by the Bills on Thursday, is at the Lions' Allen Park facility meeting with team officials right now. Dockery and receiver Nate Washington of the Steelers are the only two free agents expected to visit with the Lions today. It's possible the Lions could sign one or both before they leave, with Dockery being the more likely of the two to sign.

Dockery, by the way, is a massive individual. He would start immediately at left guard and upgrade the Lions' offensive line immensely. He turns 29 in September.

since derek's my name, i'd have no prob with dockery signing with the lions. that, and he's a pretty good guard too.

Get them both signed, they are both positions of need. And according to MLive Nate is expected to not leave before signing according to a source.

dockery is a beast, i would be for that signing. only thing is then I think they would stick with backus at LT and I don't want to deal with his 10 sack avg per year anymore. i guess we can't change the whole team though

someone brought up an interesting point about backus in that he's NEVER had a guard of the caliber that dockery has to help out. if we get dock and backus stays at LT, i think, like peppy with a full TC and whatnot under him, we'll see a much better player.

we could then draft aaron curry with the first pick [and could rest easier about it] and james l with the second if he's still there and we don't get another MLB in FA.

Hey Dave, Foster is saying Shaun Rogers wants to return to Detroit.

You hearing anything?

we all know how credible foster is....could be interesting if it's true though. i'd take him back and restructure HIS contract much like we did peppy's. it's a new regime and i think we should take a shot at him again if he does wanna come back here.

Shaun Rogers wants to get paid, that's it. But I don't see it happening in Detroit.

As for Dockery, the man is huge. I saw him get off the elevator from a distance today. He'd be the biggest player on the team and certainly give the line a new look. That's a good signing in my eyes if they get it done. I'm sure it would help Backus, but long term I think the Lions still would want an upgrade there. Probably not at No. 1 this year, but before too long they'll be in the mix for a new LT.
