Carr leaves Lions without a deal, headed to Cleveland

Free-agent cornerback Chris Carr said his meeting with the Lions “went well,” but he left Monday without a contract and will visit Cleveland next.

The Lions are pursuing Carr, 25, as a backup cornerback and return specialist. Carr was one of the most dangerous punt and kick returners in the league last year, but he said he envisions playing a bigger role on defense at his next stop.

"I always want an opportunity to do both because I feel like I can really help a team do both," he said Monday. "And I feel like the spots that I have played in Oakland and Tennessee I played very well so I want an opportunity to do that more often."

The Lions signed one free-agent cornerback in Eric King, who played with Carr under new Lions coach Jim Schwartz in Tennessee last year, and traded for another in Anthony Henry already this offseason.

They've also had Buffalo's Jabari Greer in for a visit and could host Tampa Bay's Philip Buchanon next.
