Detroit Lions sign Corey Irvin to add depth at defensive tackle

The Lions have signed Corvey Irvin to add depth to the defensive tackle position.

Irvin, 28, played six games in the 2013 season with the Dallas Cowboys. He was originally drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the third round of the 2009 draft out of Georgia. Same draft class, same school as Matthew Stafford.

He was on the Lions’ practice squad in 2011 but didn’t make the 53-man roster.

Irvin has also played with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Defensive end Israel Idonije will not return after playing one season. He’s 33.
