Finally, Lions get the ball to Calvin Johnson
GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Get the ball to Calvin. It’s been the Lions’ fans battle cry all season.
It’s not like quarterback Shaun Hill wasn’t trying, but Calvin Johnson has been so double-teamed it was difficult to get him the ball.
In Sunday’s 28-26 loss to the Green Bay Packers, Johnson was the target 11 times and had six receptions for 86 yards and a pair of touchdowns. It was his third career multiple touchdown game.
In the first three games he had 14 catches for 151 yards and one touchdown.
“It wasn’t just me (that was more involved), everybody was touching the rock the whole game and when you do that, we move the ball like we did today,’’ said Johnson who was one of seven Lions to catch at least one ball.
Johnson had most of his offseason practice reps with starter Matthew Stafford, so he and Hill are slowly getting more accustomed to playing together.
“Everybody is gaining more chemistry with Shaun and, at the same time, we knew we were going to be in the fight today and we were going to have some matchups and we were going to take advantage of those,’’ Johnson said.
