Blogs > Lions Lowdown

One thing you can count on with the Detroit Lions is that they are never, ever boring. Follow the latest news including injuries, roster moves and more here daily from Oakland Press beat writer Paula Pasche. Plus you'll find regular commentary about the team.

My good-bye

Thanks, everyone, for the well wishes and questions about the blog. By now you've probably heard the rumors, and they're true. I'm leaving The Oakland Press. I'll still be in local sports and you'll still be able to read my reporting on this wonderful internet thing, but for now I'm off the Lions beat and turning this site back over to the paper.

I appreciate everyone reading and all the interaction we've had. I know you're all passionate about the Lions. Hopefully you're loyalty will be rewarded.

You can always follow me on Twitter @davebirkett and for the time being you can reach me by e-mail at davebirkett@hotmail.com.

Dave,

Your work is among the best. While I'll be disappointed in the Lions coverage, I can't wait to read your Wolverines coverage.

Great work Dave. Maybe one of the many sites that followed your blogs will pick you up. Rotoworld, PFT were all up on your shiz, even Kowalski had to cite you.
Well Done

Well ... all good things must come to an end ... Hope the best for you, it was nice to read about my Lions through you and comparing to other sites that seemed for some reason a little slow in reporting the same. Guess that will have to do for now while i am in the pacific, thanks again

I was hoping it wasn't true actually.

Good luck on your new future... and good luck to the rest of us getting decent information on the Lions... we're going to need it.

Sounds like a good idea Dave.

The OP's pro and college coverage has gone down the crapper the past couple months not in quality necessarily but in quanity seems how nothing is covered on the road these days. It's hardly worth reading in print when it can be found anywhere else on web.

It's a shame the AP covers half of what you all used to do.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.........

That sucks; this blog was quickly beginning to rival the likes of Killer and the MLive gang. So long, Birk! I'll try to follow your other work the best I can.

the rest of the beat writers are gonna have to seriously step their games up to even be half as good as you were/are, dave. man this sucks.

Going to miss you Dave! And definitely echoing NetRat!!

Maybe they'll let you do some Lions stuff mixed in with your Wolverine coverage...

Lots of former UM guys on the Lions, right??

Good Luck Dave!

Thank you Dave.

Seriously..how badly is the newspaper industry struggling? Newspapers can't even afford to pay a decent salary to retain great columnists. Where am I going to get my news from now? PFT? No thank you. I can do without mindless copying and pasting of news with the same jabs over and over again. Killer is the only beat writer we have left now.

Dave, Ive come to enjoy and respect your work more so than any other Lions beat writer. It sucks youre getting off the Lions beat just as the news starts to heat up with OTAs and mini-camp. Hopefully, you have something lined up and will be back covering the Lions as soon as possible. Thanks for all your hard work.

Dave, thanks much for everything. Also, you couldn't leave us with a final thought, a prediction on this coming season??? When will they win? Best of luck to one of the best.

Dave, this really sucks! I've enjoyed checking on your site a couple times a day. It's hard to get Lions info in Florida, now I have even fewer sources. And your writing was among the best, in or out of Michigan!

Wish you were still covering the Lions. I'm not very into college sports so I'll miss your writing and top notch reporting.

A big loss for Lions fans. Dave, you did an excellent job keeping us updated with your insights. You are a class guy. I wish you nothing but the very best. Someone is going to get a very skilled columnist.
