It may be the off-season for the Lions, but that doesn't mean there isn't something to discuss especially coming off a 10-6 season. Check here for commentary and updates on roster moves, free agency and, yes, the draft.

Updated cuts: Jonathan Scott released, Aveion Cason on IR

The Lions made their final two roster moves late Saturday, releasing tackle Jonathan Scott and placing running back/return man Aveion Cason on injured reserve with a badly sprained ankle. By placing Cason on IR and ending his season, the Lions enter next week with just two running backs, Kevin Smith and Tatum Bell, and no real return man. Fullback Jerome Felton also can carry the ball, but expect the Lions to explore their trade/free-agent options. In cutting Scott, they opted to keep Damion Cook as the final offensive lineman. Rookie seventh-round pick Landon Cohen also made the team as the 11th defensive lineman. Cohen earned a spot with a strong final preseason game.

Dave,

Wow. I can't believe that they are going without a return man, and that Cook made it over Scott. I guess Scott's injury history caught up him, since he is always solid when he plays. I wonder if there is a good returner who is also a RB, and that is why they cut the players they did. That would make the most sense, at least to me.

p.s. I hope they can get Buster Davis back after Dizon takes over in the middle and Lenon is shifted to the SAM. He has shown that he can really play the MIKE pretty well, and would be a good backup.

With 5 TEs (Gaines, Fitzsimmons, Campbell, McHugh, and Owens) and only 2 actual RBs and 4 WRs, the Lions have a bizarre allocation. Should any of the Lions skill players get injured, they're going to be in big trouble.

Sorry to see Middleton get cut. I think Martz will pick him up.
